Economic Growth, Defense Expenditures, Agriculture, Time Series ModelsAbstract
The econometric model of the study consists of economic growth, rural value added and defense expenditures. The purpose of the study is to specify whether there is a causality relationship between economic growth, defense expenditures and rural value-added variables in Turkey. In accordance with the results unit root tests, the rural value added, economic growth and defense expenditure variables are stationary at level values and first difference levels. According to the results of Tsong – Lee – Tsai – Hu cointegration test, there is no long run relationship between the economic growth, defense expenditures and rural value-added variables. According to the results of Fourier type Toda Yamamoto causality test, there is a bidirectional causality relationship between economic growth, defense expenditure and rural value-added variables in Turkey. The original value of the study is that since defense expenditure and rural value added affect the economic growth variable, the increase or decrease in one variable is thought to affect the increase or decrease in other variable. Consequently, in terms of economic growth, there is an opportunity cost between defense expenditure and rural value-added variables.
